Brendan Fevola has opened up about his infamous booze-fuelled night at the Brownlow in 2009.
At the time, the Carlton spearhead was so drunk he couldn’t remember his antics while filming a Street Talk segment for The Footy Show that became the talk of the town and eventually saw him traded from the club.
“This time 11 years ago I was waking up at the beautiful Crown casino,’’ Fevola told Fifi, Fev and Byron on FOX FM Tuesday morning.
“Just got the arms up, turned over to my pregnant wife (Alex) and said, oh god, last night was good.
“And she said you’re a beepwit. And I didn’t know what happened. It was the Brownlow night that I’d got hammered.
“So today 11 years ago was a real tough day, probably one of the toughest I’ve gone through I reckon.”
Fevola said his phone had been ringing all morning but he was still oblivious to what had occurred.
“Then I actually went to Silks for lunch with a few players. And Greg Swann rang. I was sitting next to big Johnny Brown. Greg Swann was the CEO of the (Carlton) Football Club.
“He rang like three or four times and I thought I’d let that go through to Gilly, straight through to the keeper, and then I answered it.
“He said mate, you need to … where are you? I said I’m at Crown and he said you need to leave and go home. I’ll call you in an hour.
“I drove home and still had no idea what was going on, I’m like I must have done something bad last night and then I rocked up to my house and there was literally 100 media out the front of my house all taking photos and I didn’t leave for a week. Tough times.
“The Mrs was rapt. I walked inside because Alex had already left because I had the lunch. She’d gone home and she’s sitting on the couch and had the TV on pause. She said have a look at this (showing the pressure point antics with Chris Judd).
“I turned around and said maybe we should watch a couple of Foxtel movies.”
Fevola was also slapped with a ban from Crown and was axed from the Grand Final Footy Show later that week.
