International music superstars Ed Sheeran and Chris Martin have praised their good friend, cricket legend Shane Warne, in the first look trailer for his sports doco called Shane.

The highly anticipated film promises to tell ‘the extraordinary untold story’ of one of Australia’s greatest ever sportsmen.

“(He is) one of the few rock ‘n’ roll sportsmen and I think people really liked that about him,’’ Sheeran says.

Coldplay frontman Martin says: “Even I get swept up in it even though I know it’s ridiculous.”

The moving trailer also reveals Warne taking a candid look back at his career, and also features two of his three children, Brooke and Jackson.

“Cricket found me, I was a man on a mission, I wasn’t taking any prisoners,’’ Warne says.

Warne added that family life had been put on the backburner while he chased his cricket dreams. The spin king ended his career with a record 708 test wickets.

Coldplay frontman Chris Martin says it was easy to get ‘swept up’ in Warnie’s story.
Coldplay frontman Chris Martin says it was easy to get ‘swept up’ in Warnie’s story.

“I was front page, back page, middle page and everything was good … cricket was always my number one priority, that doesn’t mean I didn’t value my family, but they were second,’’ he says.

Brooke Warne says: “Lots of happy memories, lots of sad memories – we only ever saw him as dad.”

Jackson adds: “So I can appreciate the sacrifices he made when we were younger for him to be Shane Warne who he is today.”

The trailer also features comments from cricket greats Merv Hughes and Sachin Tendulkar.

“I’ve got my hand up, I want to be Shane Warne,’’ Hughes says.

Shane is in cinemas on January 6 and on Amazon Prime on January 25.

It will launch as the Australian summer of cricket is in full swing, with Warne a commentator on Fox Cricket.
