Eddie McGuire looks set to return to his first network as host of Ten’s Melbourne Cup Carnival coverage.
McGuire started his decorated television career at Network Ten as a sports journalist in the early 80s and has gone on to host a variety of successful shows for Nine and Fox Footy.
On Footy Classified which he hosts each Wednesday night, the former Collingwood president was asked by panellist Caroline Wilson if he would be fronting the racing coverage this year.
“I’ve got no comment to make about anything about this,’’ he said.
“And in due course things will be announced that I’m doing, in fact here at the Nine network.”
When Wilson pressed again about the Carnival coverage he said: “We’ll see what happens”.
Ten’s racing coverage was co-hosted last year by Michael Felgate, Caty Price and Michelle Payne. Sports presenter Stephen Quartermain has also previously co-hosted with Gorgi Coghlan.
McGuire was coy about racing but unequivocal when asked by Wilson if he had any involvement in recent discussions between the AFL and Paramount, the owner of Network Ten, about the next footy rights deal.
“I can tell you right now I’m categorically not involved in any football with Paramount or Channel 10,’’ he said.
McGuire pointed out that his production company Jam TV produces many shows for various networks.
“What we do is we produce for a lot of people, we’re reasonably good at it and we’ve won a number of awards.”
Network Ten were approached for comment and it is believed the Melbourne Cup Carnival coverage line up will be announced soon.
