Eddie McGuire marks milestone 60th birthday with humble home dinner

TV personality and media mogul Eddie McGuire shows no signs of slowing down in his career on the eve of his 60th birthday, but plans to mark the day with a very humble celebration.

Eddie McGuire is feeling “lucky” as he prepares to mark his 60th birthday milestone on Tuesday.

The TV personality and media mogul is of course too busy to celebrate just yet, but he’s excited as he enters the next phase of life.

“I’m working, I’m flat out and I just came back from overseas so it’ll be dinner at home with (my wife) Carla and the boys (Joe and Xander) are overseas so they’re going to Zoom in,’’ McGuire said.

“I just keep bowling along, I actually enjoy the changing seasons and I like the next part of life and enjoy what it brings.

“I’m a young father I think still, I’ve got young men and women in my life everywhere who work with me, work for me, who live with me, the rhythms of life — it’s fantastic.”

McGuire, who hosted the Melbourne Cup Carnival launch on Monday at Flemington, will take the reins of the coverage again.

He said he couldn’t be luckier to have a birthday coincide with spring racing.

“I've always been very strong on you have to continue going in life,’’ he said.

“I did a lot of things as a young person working in the media when I was 13 writing for the Herald and 17 at Channel 10 and Collingwood president at 33. I crammed a lot in early days and now I’m enjoying everything else that comes with it.

“How lucky am I this week on my birthday week, I remember when I was a little boy I used to run the sweeps at school when I was a young kid at primary school and secondary school and now I’m hosting the Melbourne Cup. I still get a thrill out of it, coming out here today.”

McGuire is starting a new chapter in his television career by starring in a new Helloworld travel show airing from Sunday.

He’s been to London, Greece, Turkey and Scotland for that. He really is Eddie Everywhere again at the ripe age of 60.

“I just started a new chapter with doing the travel and a few announcements are coming in relation to that in due course,’’ he said. “Just lots going on, I’m up and about.”
