EDDIE McGuire has accepted the relocation of the Logies to the Gold Coast, but wants the TV awards to eventually come back to Melbourne.
“Sometimes a change is a good thing but I think ultimately the home of the Logies should be Melbourne,” McGuire said.
McGuire knows better than most the impact of Melbourne losing the Logies. He was on the board of The Victorian Major Events Company, now part of Visit Victoria.

SECRET DEALS AND SQUABBLES BEHIND LOGIES LIST
“I was disappointed to see it (the Logies) leave Melbourne. It should have always been here and should get back as soon as possible.
“That is not only for the sake of the Logies but also for Melbourne’s television industry. When I was on Victorian Major Events the government put some funding behind it because I was very strong that there was a pull to Sydney with the executives up there.
“You don’t know what you’ve got until it is gone.”
The Footy Show and Hot Seat host would also love to see a category that recognises news presenters in any future awards.
“The highest-rating shows every week are the news services, so why wouldn’t you have a best newsreader Logie,” McGuire told Confidential.
“These (news services) are things that actually make the world go around (central to networks’ programming).”
The Gold Coast Logies are on this Sunday, the night after Collingwood plays the Gold Coast Suns at Metricon Stadium.
Voters have until July 1 to pick a favourite from the Gold Logie shortlist, and other categories at www.tvweeklogieawards.com.au
