‘Dip Dolla?’: Dipper’s shock career swerve thanks to superstar Aussie DJ
He’s been Dipper the Hawk and Dipper the Dimmeys Guy now is it DJ Dipper? The former AFL great has opened up about his surprise new passion and the Aussie superstar who inspired him.
High flying former Hawk Robert DiPierdomenico is hitting the dance music decks thanks to some tips from one of the world’s best DJs.
Dipper is learning to DJ after being inspired by Aussie superstar Dom Dolla, who he joined on stage at a club gig in Mykonos last year.
The experience had a lasting impact on the Brownlow Medallist and Hawthorn premiership player who has now bought DJ equipment and is taking lessons.
Dipper met Dom Dolla (real name Dominic Matheson) through his partner Rebecca’s brother, Luke, while they were holidaying in Greece in July 2024 with Virgin Voyages.
“I’ve always loved music,” Dipper said.
“We got to meet Dom and his family and friends and next thing we were asked to go onto the deck with him and I just loved it so much. I’m so thankful to Dom for allowing me to experience that.
“For my birthday I got a DJ deck and I am taking some lessons and learning to mix some songs together. It is not Dipper the AFL player or Dipper the Dimmeys Guy anymore, it is Dipper the DJ now.”
With Rebecca’s brother being a DJ also, Dipper is getting plenty of advice on his mixing skills.
“Luke bought a deck over and then we started playing music and next thing I was playing for four or five hours just at home,” Dipper said.
“I just could not stop. I love it so much.”
Even on his current holiday on a Virgin Voyages cruise around Europe Dipper is getting his practice in. When he is ready to do public performances in Melbourne, Dipper already has a name in mind – Dip Dolla. What this space.
