Portsea Polo returns to Point Nepean in F3 format after five-year hiatus
After a five-year hiatus, the lush Portsea Polo event has galloped back onto social and sporting calendars, returning to Point Nepean in the faster, more intense F3 format in February.
One of Melbourne’s iconic summer social events, Portsea Polo, is galloping back into action after a five-year hiatus, with the scene set for plenty of glamorous horseplay on the peninsula.
Promising to be a highlight of early 2026, the Portsea Polo tournament will be held on February 14 at Point Nepean with the game being played in an F3 format.
F3 polo features three-a-side teams on a grass arena that is smaller that in the traditional form of a polo field format which results in faster matches, high-intensity play and brings spectators closer to the elite equine action.
Having teamed up with the Australian Polo Federation, Portsea Polo promises to showcase some of Australia’s top polo players.
Tickets are being snapped up quickly.
“The momentum for the event has been fantastic and we feel like it will continue to build,” said F3Polo executive director, Sam Hopkinson.
“It is tracking really well.”
The reimagined Portsea Polo is run by F3Polo Pty Ltd, the creators of the global F3Polo format.
“We wanted to ensure the event’s return felt both respectful to its legacy and fresh in its format,” said F3Polo co-founder Simon Wilson.
“This is more than a comeback, it is a reinvention. It is a game made for spectators who want more – luxury, energy, and field-side action.”
With experience playing overseas and in Australia, Mornington Peninsular-based polo player Sam Stott said he was looking forward to the return of Portsea Polo.
“It is great it is coming back,” he said.
