Delta Goodrem reveals what she thinks about flirting towards male contestants on The Voice

DELTA Goodrem has revealed why she has no problem with fellow coach Kelly Rowland’s flirtatious behaviour towards several male contestants on The Voice.

THE Voice coach Delta Goodrem has responded to criticism about flirtatious behaviour on the reality singing show towards male contestants.

“We’re all out there making an entertainment show,” Goodrem told Confidential.

“We’re a very safe environment as a show and we really care about our artists.

“We genuinely look after our artists more than any other show. Everybody works hard to make sure the artists are cared for, and respected.

“I say that with my hand on my heart, and I’m really proud that we care.”

Her comments follow coach Kelly Rowland’s flirtatious behaviour towards several male contestants on Nine’s hit show and comments about Australian men.

Critics also cited recent antics by host Sonia Kruger, who suggested contestant Jackson Parfitt should undo more buttons on his shirt.

Goodrem attended Channel Nine’s All Star event in Sydney last night alongside Rowland, and other coaches Boy George and Joe Jonas, to promote The Voice live rounds, kicking off on Sunday.

Hamish Blake, Andy Lee (True Stories), and Shaun Micallef (Talkin’ Bout Your Generation) were also at the event.

Goodrem said she was humbled to feature in so many spaces this week — on The Voice, an Olivia Newton John telemovie and a just-released album of ONJ covers.

“It’s part of what I do,” she said.

“I’ve been in the entertainment business and been on camera my whole life. I live in front of it every day.

“It’s quite emotional because it’s where I started. I’m having quite an out of body experience at the moment because (ONJ’s songs) were my first introduction into music.

“Some of the first songs I sang for anybody have come back into my life at this moment. That’s been quite profound.”

“I grew up as a teenager in front of everyone, and I’ve grown up in my late 20s to early 30s, in front of everyone. It’s interesting to have a second phase of on-camera life.”

Asked if she recognises herself in any of The Voice hopefuls, Goodrem answered: “It’s a different era. It was 18 years ago when I got signed (to a record label).

“The Voice is a fast forward version of discovery, being signed, developed, and having a hit. It’s the best school an artist can go to.”

That said, Delta also denied reports The Voice teachers are bickering in the playground.

“We all get on like a house on fire,” she said.

“We are all friends who check in with each other. The genuine truth of the matter is they’re my friends.

“In fact, we’re picking which restaurants to eat at for the next six weeks.”
