Kylie Minogue turns 50

DANNII Minogue says “trusting her gut instinct” has enabled her to thrive over 40 years in the business.

The entertainment veteran admitted it was an emotional time marking the milestone on the final day of filming for her new television show Dance Boss.

“It was really emotional because I had that celebration on the last day filming the grand final,’’ she told Confidential.

“It was just not a new project but something that was really special and something that was going to propel me into the future and the next part of my career.

“I’ve just been really clear about trusting my gut instinct. And that is as much as going into a project as saying this is my time to leave and step away from it. X Factor had been a huge part of the last 10 years in the UK and Australia and with both it was, (saying) I’m done here and this is my time to step away.

“And thinking, OK, I want to find the next project. I want it to challenge me and I want to move forward and I want to somehow put 40 years of experience, because it is a long time, into it where it can make a difference. This one was the project.”

Minogue’s Dance Boss will air on Channel 7 soon.

On Monday she will help announce Virgin Australia’s daily flights between Melbourne and Hong Kong which start from October 28.

She said Dance Boss was a passion project.

“Choose the project that sets you on fire and absolutely go for it and then just get that,’’ she said.

“And then whatever will be will be. It’s very much instinct, if you’ve done your best, you can sleep at night. If it’s a success or a failure you know you gave it everything.”

Minogue missed her sister Kylie’s 50th birthday because of filming but said the family would have a celebration soon.

“Man, for a 50th we need a year of celebrations. It’s not about one night. It’s a festival of Kylie,’’ Minogue said.

“It was heart wrenching because it was her 50th and there’s so much to celebrate, but we had decided as a family we’re all going to meet up at another time this year and just do it really properly.

“Because of the career we’ve both done since we were children the whole family is used to the fact that you miss birthdays, you miss weddings, you miss funerals, and you catch up and you connect with those people when you can.”
