Dale Thomas says footy players still have a fear of coming out.
But the former Collingwood and Carlton star believes it wouldn’t “be one bit an issue” if a player revealed he was gay.
“The whole idea around it has changed so much, everyone is so accepting of it,’’ he said.
“I reckon yeah, it’s such a suppressed idea, because of years past, and footy clubs (it’s) man-man.’’
In a discussion with his camp mates tonight on I’m a Celebrity … Get Me Out of Here! Thomas was asked about footy clubs being a homosexual environment.
“100 per cent it is. You shower together, wash each others’ backs,’’ he said.
“Do good, you get a pat on the bum. Yeah. But again I think a lot of it would be fear of saying “hey, yeah I’m gay” and then you go and shower with them.
“Just uneducated people or younger kids going, “oh he’s looking at me”. I honestly don’t think it wouldn’t be one bit an issue.”
Thomas tells Cosentino: “The first person who does it is going to be 1) A pioneer and 2) Will get paid an absolute packet.”
