Costeen Hatzi says tennis star boyfriend Nick Kyrgios has ‘a few years left in him’

Costeen Hatzi believes her tennis star boyfriend Nick Kyrgios has “a few years left in him” after he was forced to pull out of the Australian Open.

Kyrgios withdraws from Australian Open citing knee injury

Nick Kyrgios’s girlfriend, Costeen Hatzi, has urged the tennis ace to keep playing after he kindled his love for the sport last year.

Devastated that he was forced to pull out of the Australian Open with a knee injury, Hatzi says Kyrgios is shelving retirement talk for now.

“When I met him he wasn’t sure how many years he had left on the tennis tour,” she said.

“But now because he had such an amazing year I think he has a few years left in him. He kind of did a 360 in that sense. Hopefully he does have a few years left because I love watching him play and so do so many other people so I don’t think it’s the end right now.”

Hatzi met the Canberra local in December 2021 and the pair has been inseparable since.

She says the criticism he cops is unfair.

“I think it’s easy to judge someone like Nick because you do only see bits of him losing his shit on the court and the media kind of portray him in a bad way sometimes and that makes it easy for people to think he’s got bad manners, he’s crazy on the court and all that,” she said.

“Sometimes I do think he’s portrayed unfairly.

“He’s the complete opposite off the court, he’s so kind, he’s so caring, he only kind of loses it on court because he’s so passionate about the game and he wants to win and he has emotion. I don’t think it’s necessarily a bad thing that he shows a bit of emotion on the court.”

Hatzi, who has graduated from university with a psychology degree, works as a social media influencer, content creator and interior designer.

The 22 year-old sees her future with Kyrgios and likes that he playfully alludes to weddings and forever love. After not even knowing the rules of tennis she is happy being immersed in the game.

“I love it,” she said.

“I miss my family back home but at the same time I get to experience the world and see all these countries that I probably wouldn’t have seen if I wasn’t on the tour. It can be chaotic, it’s the same thing every week, but just different countries and cities. It’s a lot, it’s very repetitive so I commend the players for doing it every week.”

Hatzi has landed her first gig as ambassador with Australian powerhouse Bondi Sands, the official suncare of the Australian Open.

“I love working with Bondi Sands — they are providing free sunscreen throughout the tournament, and it’s important to work with a brand that is dedicated to sun safety,’’ she said.
