AFLW star and former Australian Diamonds netballer Sharni Layton has started the year with her biggest win of all.
Layton married her partner Luke Norder on New Year’s Day at Bell’s Hotel in South Melbourne after postponing their Hawaii wedding last year due to COVID-19.
It was a smaller wedding but the Collingwood AFLW player and Fox Footy panellist on Bounce, said it was an “epic bloody day”.
“Yesterday I married my soul mate, my best friend,’’ Layton wrote.
“The one who makes me laugh until I cry. The man who makes my life whole. I am so proud to be your wife baby, you complete me xo.”
Layton and Norder also made a sea change last year, moving to Frankston and buying a house with the money saved from the cancelled wedding.
She also started The Layton Sports Academy based in Frankston.
“We rescheduled the wedding for November back in April and we postponed again to a New Year’s Day wedding in Melbourne,’’ Layton told the Herald Sun last year.
“We decided to be real adults and we pulled the trigger and bought a house.
“The amount of people who have said to us, ‘we wish we bought a house instead of blowing it on a wedding’, is pretty amazing. It’s a silver lining.”
The AFLW season is due to kick off with Carlton v Collingwood at IKON Park on January 28.
