Chemist Warehouse mogul Sam Gance is selling off the luxury contents of his former Toorak mansion.
The businessman, who bought his new Toorak home on Lansell Road for about $43 million in 2021, is offloading his collection of art, furniture and adornments through Gibson’s Auctioneers.
The items include furniture, carpets, ceramics, mirrors, paintings, chandeliers, a competition size billiards table, and wrought iron gates. A mounted deer head with gazelle horns and a bronze bird bath are also on the auction block.
Gance moved into his new Toorak digs last year, with partner, former Real Housewives of Melbourne star Janet Roach, with the house already furnished.
Roach said she was emotional about the sell-off, including “art we couldn’t fit into (their new) house … it wasn’t the right size. A lot of it makes you cry when it goes to auction.”
Roach said Gance is selling many items for much lower than he paid.
“There’s this fabulous chandelier, but it only takes candles. (Gance) paid something ridiculous for it.”
Roach said she and Gance have fallen in love with their $43 million abode.
“It’s serene and calm and beautiful,” Roach said. “We’re absolutely blessed and lucky.”
Gibson’s Auctioneers said Gance, prominent businessman and founder of the Chemist Warehouse and My Chemist businesses is selling “his impressive private collection featuring more than 150 exemplary pieces of 18th century furniture, decorative arts, fabulous room adornments, outdoor pieces and traditional and modern art collected over the course of 35 years at the property.”
Interested parties can view the items at the “gracious property” at Struan St, Toorak, on April 28 and 29, before it all goes under the hammer on April 30.
