AFL WAG Rebecca Klodinsky has thanked her partner, Geelong defender Lachie Henderson, for his support through a turbulent time when a past scandal resurfaced this week.
The bikini mogul was on Monday ordered to pay $860 for stealing an iPhone from a car wash six years ago.
The former girlfriend of convicted killer Dionne Lacey, she pleaded guilty to stealing in the Southport Magistrates Court.
She said past traumas had triggered her actions and still haunt her.
“I’ve rectified it and take responsibility for what’s transpired,” she told the Herald Sun.
“But in saying that what has happened is part of a larger and more complex story from a past relationship.
“It’s hard because I’m really not able to move forward with my life, I have constraints that my ex partner has put on me. I don’t want to relive past trauma and it’s part of a much larger story and when you’re in the public eye and haven’t had a chance to advocate or speak freely, it’s hard.
“Even though (the relationship) ended years ago it’s still a really hard journey that I’m on.
“I don’t talk about it in the press and just to have it out so openly and broadcasted when I tried so hard to keep my life private … it’s hard but I can use this now to help others with their back against a wall from a bad relationship.”
Klodinsky founded Frankii Swim, now called IIXIIST, in 2013, and became a global swimwear sensation after famous fans including Kim Kardashian, Kris Jenner, Kylie Jenner, Bella Hadid and Rihanna were spotted wearing her swimwear. In 2017, it was reported Klodinsky’s business was turning over $7m annually.
She lives in Queensland now with her son, and paid tribute to Henderson.
“Lachie has been really supportive through all this,” she said.
“He’s been amazing. We’re in a really good place, and it’s good to have a partner who supports me. He’s incredible because he sees what’s going on, and he knows the truth.
“He knows that I’m speaking up for women, and giving women a voice. This is difficult because we’re both very private people. But I’m taking responsibility for things and standing up for myself, and he supports that. I couldn’t have got through this (incident) without him.”
Klodinsky was sentenced to a $500 good behaviour bond for six months and ordered to pay $860 restitution. No conviction was recorded.
“When you’re involved in a toxic relationship being so young it’s just been a battle,” she said.
“My work has gotten me through it and I’m so focused which is why I don’t like to give any oxygen to what’s happening in my private life.
“If you read anything you’ll never find anything about my private life online but here we are. Just to talk about this now, I feel like a weight has been lifted.
“It happens to so many women, it doesn’t matter how successful or pretty you are. It’s so unspoken. To have the AFL and everything, it’s just hard.”
