Ten years after Brynne Gordon’s lavish wedding to Geoffrey Edelsten, the American socialite insists they married for love, not money.
The pair, who had a 41-year age gap, dropped $3.3 million on their big day at Melbourne’s Crown Casino in 2009, now Brynne has told Stellar magazine that there’s no truth to gold digger claims.
“Money is nice. Nobody is going to turn money down. But it was never about that. Believe it or not, Geoff can be very, very nice,” she said of the millionaire businessman.
Gordon was just 26 when she married a then 67-year-old Edelsten just nine months after they met.
She previously said they split after six years together due to a lack of intimacy.
The pair well and truly exceeded their initial wedding budget of $100,000.
Medical entrepreneur Edelsten, 76, later went on to marry former prostitute Gabi Grecko, while Gordon also moved on, but remains unlucky-in-love following her recent split from Leno Cachia.
“I’d like to be The Bachelorette. I could do that … Line them up!” she said.
Gordon was previously engaged to comedian Brett Hunter in 2017 and moved on with a woman named Coby Boatman after they split.
Gordon and Edelsten’s dream wedding was one of the most talked about nuptials of 2009, due to its over-the-top nature including a helicopter arrival and circus performers.
Around 500 guests attended including Margot Robbie, Kerri-Anne Kennerley and American actor Fran Drescher.
Gordon previously said she didn’t know some of the guests.
“I didn’t realise Margot was there,” she said earlier this year.
“At that point, I was just starting to get familiar with Australia in general, let alone know who the people were at the wedding.
“I didn’t actually understand, let alone appreciate how lucky I was to have those people there. I didn’t realise how big a deal it was.
“Now I look at some of the guest list, and it’s actually really impressive. I was a bit oblivious to it all at the time.”
The latest issue of Stellar magazine is available in this week’s Sunday Telegraph.
