Brynne Edelsten’s shock pregnancy discovery at five months

Brynne Edelsten thought Covid kilos were to blame for her sudden weight gain — until she took a pregnancy test.

Brynne Edelsten has revealed she’s having a baby girl after unexpectedly falling pregnant.

The socialite ex-wife of late controversial businessman Geoffrey Edelsten, she says she had been told it was highly unlikely she would ever be able to conceive naturally.

“It was the furthest thing from what I was expecting,” she told New Idea.

“I didn’t think I could have kids!

“It wasn’t that I couldn’t, but when I was doing the tests, I was barely ovulating. Doctors always told me if I wanted kids, it would be through IVF.”

Edelsten said when she found out she was pregnant in December it was a complete shock as she thought she was just becoming a little bit fat with Covid kilos. She has told the father but will raise her daughter alone.

Edelsten was on SAS: Australia in 2021.

“I was completely shocked. I had to read the instructions about six times over to make sure I had it right. It took me quite some time to process it all,” she said.

“All I ever wanted to do in life was be a mum. I can’t make up my mind about anything, but I have always been sure of this one thing.

“I wanted it so badly... and so over the years I just became a woman who came to accept it wasn’t on the cards for me. Coming to that realisation, it was devastating.”

Edelsten, 38, is due in April and says there is no man in the picture, but she’ll raise her child with the help of her close friend and flatmate.

“I told the father, though,’’ she said.

“I would never keep the father of my child apart — I don’t think that’s ever going to be something that happens.”

“I don’t think it seems real for him — it barely seemed real to me.

“I told him I was happy to raise her alone, so I’m not sure what he’ll want to do. I just see my baby as a blessing — I’m really happy about it.”

Edelsten, who went through a messy split with Geoffrey in 2014 after four years of marriage, said he would he happy for her.

“I think Geoff would be so happy for me,” she said. “I think it would come as a surprise, as we never thought it was possible for us.”
