Former AFL star Brendan Fevola is tackling his most daring stunt yet to make it into the Guinness Book of World Records.

The broadcaster is hoping to scale new heights by breaking the record for the highest-altitude catch — a feat achieved by American football star Rob Gronkowski in April.

Gronkowski broke the record by catching a football dropped from a helicopter hovering 620 feet (188m) in the air.

Fevola intends to smash the record by catching a ball dropped from 650 feet (198m) next week.

“This is a Sherrin football coming out of a helicopter, that would be like a cement brick if that gets you on the head, this is not good, Fev,” Fevola’s radio co-host Fifi Box said.

“Are you sure want to do this?”

Fevola said: “It might knock some sense into me. If I’m going to go out, I’ll go out taking a mark.

“I’m in, this is amazing … I will catch a ball obviously higher than Gronkowski, the three-time Super Bowl champion. He did his in college, they were all standing around him which is strange.

“Drop it, catch it and I’m in the Guinness Book of World Records. Wow. This could be my legacy.”

Discussing the attempt on their FOX FM breakfast show Fifi, Fev and Nick, Box said they needed to find a 17-acre property for the attempt. Once that’s secured. they will push ahead.

“We have been working tirelessly with the helicopter group in Moorabbin, they’ve been so helpful, they are going to great lengths to help us make this happen,’’ Box said.

“CASA, the Civil Aviation Safety Authority, they’re all in this, they’re trying to get this approved.

“There’s lots of things you’ve got to go through. Police clearance, securing clearing the reserve, filming permits, council approval, risk assessments, trial runs.

“Got to be a 70m clear radius. They’re all the loopholes we’ve got to get through and I’m not going to lie, they’re a bit tricky, there is a catch here at the moment.

“To make this happen we are calling upon someone in Melbourne to help us. We just need a 17-acre property.

“If we can find a 17-acre property we can make this happen. We’re ready to go and ready to press the button and go this is bang, happening.”
