Wheelchair bound and suffering from pneumonia, Liz Cambage spent three days on a drip in a Chinese hospital. The basketball star believes she survived coronavirus before the world knew what it was.

Melbourne basketball export Liz Cambage believes she has survived a coronavirus scare.

The Australian and WNBA star was playing in China before the league was cancelled due to the outbreak.

She was hospitalised before Christmas near Beijing and ended up in a wheelchair with pneumonia and coronavirus like symptoms.

“I actually was sick in hospital and I honestly think I had corona,’’ Cambage said.

“I was so weak, I couldn’t walk, I was in a wheelchair. I had pneumonia. I think I had it before it was a global thing.”

Cambage has since had blood tests and is fine. She said she was on a drip for three days.

“I was in a really bad way. You don’t realise how great we have it here in Australia until you go to hospital in a country like China,’’ she said.

“They were trying to give me Chinese medicine and herbs and stuff, which really wasn’t doing anything.”

Cambage, 28, arrived home in January and will return to play with the Las Vegas Aces in mid April.

She joins the Australian Opals camp at the end of this month and holds no fear over the Olympics being cancelled or postponed.

“I think it will be fine,’’ she said.

“I think the media and people are reading too much into it and it’s causing hysterics in the general public. I can’t imagine them calling it off.

“No one is worried. As long as you wash your hands and be clean you’re fine.

“Most of us grew up dreaming of standing on that Olympic podium and winning a gold medal so I’m excited I get another opportunity to do that.”

Cambage went to Kobe Bryant’s memorial in LA last week. Back in Melbourne she visited a new basketball court at Rebel Doncaster which opens on March 19.

It also features a gaming room where people can play a FIFA challenge, plus an in house podiatrist and nutritionist.
