AS television legends, they’ve long had the stamp of approval from adoring audiences.
But on Thursday Australia Post made it official, and honoured Bert Newton, Kerri-Anne Kennerley, Daryl Somers, Denise Drysdale and Ray Martin in its 2018 Legends of TV Entertainment stamp series.
Showbiz king Newton said: “Like so many kids back in the 40s, I saved stamps. If someone had tapped that kid on the shoulder and said that one day your photograph is going to be on a stamp, well you wouldn’t believe it.

Former Hey Hey It’s Saturday host Somers said: “It’s certainly a great honour. When you work in a job that you love, having the most fun you can possibly have for the longest possible time, and then you’re declared a legend … well, it’s all a bit surreal.”
TV host Kennerley said she doesn’t consider herself a legend.
“I know the exalted company that I’m in, and they are true legends,” she said.
“I didn’t believe I’d get this far but it feels great to know that people have enjoyed my career.”
Australia Post Managing Director and Group CEO, Christine Holgate, said: “Each of these multi-award winning television personalities have made unique contributions to the Australian entertainment industry and have played a role in forming our national popular culture.”
