ARNOLD Schwarzenegger made good on his promise to be back, touching down in Melbourne this morning.

The Terminator wasted no time pumping up his Arnold Sports Festival, which expects to see around 10,000 athletes competing in events such as the world’s strongest man competition at the Melbourne Exhibition Centre this weekend.

Arriving with his long term partner Heather Milligan, Arnie who hit his 70th birthday milestone last year, said he still works out every day.

“I work out for an hour with the weights, then 45 minutes of cardiovascular training and bicycling.”

But you won’t see Arnie doing push-ups, saying that’s for pansies:

“Push ups are for people who don’t like to lift weights, I don’t do that many push-ups.”

Arnold Sports Festival partner Tony Doherty has organised a stack of bicycles to be on standby for the former Governator who loves cycling the city in his spare time.

“I just cruise around,” he said.

Back in 2015, Arnie was stopped in his tracks by police for riding one of Melbourne’s blue share bikes without a helmet.

Promoting fitness and health is his new crusade, but of course when it comes to Arnie, it has to be big, bold or go home.

“This is as big as the Olympics, it’s huge,” he said of the Arnold Sports Festival.

“This will be the biggest ever, 35 different sports, not just body building, power building and the world’s strongest men competition its different Olympic sports.

“We have some huge guys coming in that weigh somewhere between 300 and 450 pounds, I have just seen them 14 days ago, we were in shock, one guy was lifting over a thousand pounds it was just extraordinary strength.”

Arnie will be front and centre at the Arnold Sports Festival at the Melbourne Convention Centre tomorrow before firing the starting pistol for the Herald Sun/CityLink Run for the Kids on Sunday.

“I will be going everywhere to cheer on the people. I am looking forward to seeing the joy in peoples eyes.”
