Anjali Rao praises hero partner for helping identify accused hit-run driver

Anjali Rao has praised her observant partner after a camping trip turned into a police incident following a cyclist’s hit-run death.

Real Housewives of Melbourne newcomer Anjali Rao has praised her partner as a hero after he helped nab a killer hit-run driver at the weekend.

Rao and her partner of two years Tim Hennessy were camping in the Dinner Plains area when keen photographer Hennessy was alarmed by the sound of a car in the quiet area.

He didn’t think much of it until they were heading home and passed some police officers who asked if they’d seen anything unusual in the area.

“Tim said there was something and he saw this car tearing up the tracks,’’ Rao said.

“It was going at pace and so he described the exact vehicle and which direction is was going and it turned out to be the car involved in a fatal hit-run. The car was impounded, the driver was arrested and Tim is completely playing it down and saying don’t call me a hero, but what he saw directly led to this person being caught.”

A 25 year-old Swifts Creek man was charged with dangerous driving causing death, failing to stop and failing to render assistance after he allegedly struck and killed a 62 year-old man from Queensland who was cycling on the Great Alpine Road in Cobungra.

“What had been a very calm and relaxing trip turned quite dramatic,’’ Rao said.

“People do say drama follows me wherever I go.”

Rao and coffee machinist Hennessy met while both lived in Hong Kong and their fathers worked in the same police unit.

Former CNN news reader Rao, who quit the Foxtel series in dramatic scenes halfway through filming, is working on a TV show she has written and is in production talks.

She will also be walking in a fashion show during the PayPal Melbourne Fashion Festival alongside fellow new Housewife Cherry Dipietrantonio.
