DAVE Hughes has been bombarded with more than 4000 text messages since he handed out his mobile phone number on national TV last night.

She was less than impressed, but Hughesy told the panellists on his show that he loves interacting with the public and would have no problem sharing his contact number.

So that’s exactly what he did on air last night.

“The phone just kept ringing all night,” Hughesy told news.com.au. “I’ve got close to 4000 text messages.”

The popular comedian answered more than 100 calls and is trying to respond to every text message he receives.

“The funniest ones were FaceTime calls that I would answer and they’d just freak out and throw the phone down,” he said.

“I got a lot of lovely messages. Someone said that their son had died last year and my show was making them laugh for the first time. That’s a bloody lovely thing to get when you put out your number.

“There was a truckload of positivity but I’ll admit there were a few ‘I hate you’ messages. So it’s good they took the time to do that,” he said sarcastically.

The calls and text messages just kept coming last night and Hughesy said they’d heat up when his show aired in different states.

“The WA calls came through at 12.30 and actually woke me up,” he said. “I thought, ‘F**k, what’s wrong?’”

When Hughesy spoke to news.com.au this morning he was standing next to his wife, and she wasn’t thrilled when she overheard the TV and radio star say on the phone that he hadn’t been sent any nudes since handing out his number.

“It’s a joke, babe!” he assured her after his wife said something in the background.

News.com.au wanted to know if the number that appeared on the screen last night was actually Hughesy’s real number and the comedian made a small confession.

“On the night when we actually filmed it I did give my actual phone number on the screen so everyone in the studio audience has my actual number,” he said. “But my management were like, ‘You can’t do that. You cannot give out your number to all of Australia.’”

Hughesy was given a new SIM card with a new phone number and that was the number that was shown on TV. But rest assured he’s still receiving your calls and your messages.

“I’ve got another phone number but it’s connected to the same iCloud so every single call and message is coming through to my new number,” he said. “I don’t know what the f**k I did.”

Hughesy will share more details about some of the bizarre messages he’s received on his radio show, Hughesy and Kate, which airs from 4.30-6.30pm on the Hit Network every weekday.
