Collingwood star Josh Daicos has spoken of the “disparity” in how English soccer stars and AFL footballers are paid and treated after visiting Aussie supercoach Ange Postecoglou in the UK.

The premiership Pie was blown away after meeting Postecoglou and touring the facilities of his English Premier League team Tottenham Hotspur on a recent holiday.

“Going over to Europe and going to Tottenham, I saw the treatment they got and I was quite flat about the treatment we get,” Daicos said.

“It’s quite amazing the disparity in wealth over there.

“They were telling me that when they are training, and obviously it’s quite cold when they play, they have heaters for the ground to make sure the ground is not frosted.

“And that costs I think $20,000 Australian, so £10,000 pounds just to put it on for the day.

“And I think they had it on for 40 days straight last year.

“So we don’t get that sort of treatment.”

Speaking in the committee room at the Caulfield Thousands, where he attended the races with girlfriend Annalise Dalins on Saturday, Daicos said it was “amazing” to meet Postecoglou and Spurs players.

And he saw similarities between Postecoglou, who has made a stunning start as Spurs manager this year, and his own coach Craig McRae, who delivered the Pies a flag in his second season in charge.

“The comparison is a great comparison,” he said.

“I’ve heard he (Postecoglou) can be quite fierce, though, but I haven’t seen that side to Fly yet.

“If we get a premiership hangover I’m sure we will see it.”

The average EPL player salary is about $5.7m. The average AFL player salary is about $406,000.

Daicos, in a lighthearted dig at the single players in his premiership squad, said there was a huge difference between what he saw in the UK and the locker rooms at Olympic Park.

“We have a few boys smelling nice but that’s about it,” he said.

“At times it’s actually quite surprising because our locker room smells really nice rather than sweaty socks and dirty boots.”

Daicos also poked fun at his famous father Peter, who he said partied harder than he and his brother Nick, after watching his boys win the flag this year.

“Believe that,” he said.

“After a week of celebrating I was done and I just wanted to go to Europe.

“But dad has been carrying on for months now, so he is having the time of his life.

“I think the last couple of years, I’ve been playing football now for six or seven years and now Nick in his first two years, I just think he’s just loved watching us play every week.

“And obviously the football we play, a lot of close games, entertaining games, so he’s just having the time of his life.

“Every game he’s having 20 to 30 beers, easy.”

He said Collingwood fans should have confidence in the team “maintaining the hunger” as it strives for more premiership success.
