Coldplay superstar Chris Martin debuted his heartfelt tribute to spin king Shane Warne at the band’s show in Perth on Sunday.
The touching ode detailed their friendship, which began after a chance meeting in a hotel elevator in 2001.
But the emotional tune wasn’t without larrikin humour, which the late Warne would have loved.
Indeed, Martin couldn’t resist mentioning Warne’s Hollywood teeth, smoking habit, lack of rhythm, and penchant for pleasure.
Warne’s daughter, Summer, who attended the show, posted her thanks on Instagram. “The most amazing song dedicated to Dad,” she said. “Thank you, Chris. So beautiful. Love you dad xx.”
Brooke and Summer shared videos of the moment Martin sang a song dedicated to his good friend Warne. The emotional solo effort drew a rousing applause from the 60,000 plus concert goers.
Summer wrote: “The most amazing song dedicated to Dad. Thank you Chris, so beautiful @coldplay Love you dad xx.”
On Saturday night Martin briefly mentioned them and their mother Simone Callahan who were watching on before he sang Yellow which was Warne’s favourite song.
Brooke told the Herald Sun that Martin always says they are VIPs at the band’s concerts anywhere in the world.
“They’re one of the best bands, if not the best band in the world. We’re so excited,” Brooke said.
