Coldplay to play two stadium shows in Melbourne

Off the back of two massive gigs in Perth, the British supergroup has announced stadium shows for Melbourne in 2024.

Coldplay’s Perth concerts expected to inject millions into WA economy

British supergroup Coldplay have announced stadium shows for Melbourne in 2024.

The announcement follows the band’s two concerts in Perth at the weekend – Coldplay’s only Down Under dates on its 2023 world tour.

The concert coup was sparked by dealings between the WA government and promoter Live Nation about including Perth on the band’s November run through Malaysia, The Philippines and Singapore.

The group on Monday confirmed it will play shows at Marvel Stadium on October 30 and 31 next year.

They will also head to Sydney’s Accor Stadium on November 6 and 7.

The confirmation of the new Australian shows follows a tour poster with the dates surfacing online on Sunday.

Coldplay returns to Asia to perform in Bangkok, Singapore and Manila in January and February next year.

Since launching in March, Coldplay’s Music Of The Spheres World Tour has sold seven million tickets; the most for a concert run in the past two years.

The shows have garnered rave reviews and it was named tour of the year at the 2023 iHeartRadio Awards.

In Perth, Coldplay performed hits including Paradise, The Scientist, Viva la Vida and A Sky Full of Stars.

The environmentally conscious band has worked hard to make the tour sustainable.

“We’re blessed that we get to play in big buildings and stadiums, and that’s an amazing thing in terms of the human connection,” Coldplay frontman Chris Martin said in a recent US radio interview.

“But when you’re leaving or you’re arriving, there’s just so much energy around it, literally and figuratively.”

The tour has “kinetic flooring”, which generates energy when the audience jumps up and down.

“I think that’s the most uplifting because you can really see the people power of it, just as our life as a band is powered by our audience,” Martin said.
