Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard are back to brave Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom

JURASSIC World star Chris Pratt’s toughest foe isn’t a T-Rex or a triceratops, but the most dangerous creature in Australia — the elusive Hemsworth. And now he’s weighing in on who will be victor in the battle of the Chrises.

Jurassic raves about Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard

IN the new Jurassic World movie, Fallen Kingdom, Chris Pratt is once again running from T-Rex, triceratops and a never before seen genetic hybrid killer dino, the indoraptor.

But it was his other adventure in cinemas right now — the box office busting Avengers: Infinity War — that saw Pratt face off with Australia’s most dangerous creature, the Hemsworth.

“The elusive Hemsworth,” says Pratt, giving his best David Attenborough.

Pratt’s Guardian of the Galaxy Star-Lord sizing himself up against Hemsworth’s god Thor was one of the funniest moments of the latest Marvel adventure.

“It’s a battle that will wage for years,” Pratt says. “Who knows? There’s no clear victor at this point. But I know we’re both training really hard to be victorious in this battle of the Chrises.”

Pratt was back in Hawaii last week, the filming location for Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, to launch the movie. The previous entry in the franchise, 2015’s Jurassic World, was the fourth highest grossing movie of all time worldwide before Pratt topped himself with Infinity War.

The funnyman sticks his fingers in his ears as co-star Bryce Dallas Howard weighs her winner in the battle of the Hollywood Chrises.

“I really cannot say, because Chris Hemsworth has worked with my dad (famed director Ron Howard) multiple times — adore him. Piney, Chris Pine, I’ve known him for years and years and years, when we were both trying to be working actors. Chris Evans, I did a movie with a zillion years ago, also a sweetheart.”

Pratt interjects: “And the winner, Chris Pratt …”

“Pratty-poo over here is my movie soulmate,” Howard concludes.

Pratt, 38, and Howard, 37, are such a team these days, they’re already projecting beyond the third Jurassic World film they’re contracted for.

“I could go for like 80-90 more movies, don’t you think?” Howard suggests.

“I’m good with it,” nods Pratt. “If this is the only job we have for the rest of our lives before we retire, I’m good with that.”

“Retiring?” asks Howard. “No. Retiring doesn’t happen in this industry. One of my dad’s dreams is to die on set. Like end of life, oxygen tank, he’s in a wheelchair (she inhales deeply) … ‘Action!’ John Huston style.”

Before they get to Jurassic World 80, the stars need to survive Fallen Kingdom. Three years after the mega adventure park Howard’s character Claire built failed in spectacular fashion, she is now a dino-rights activist, fighting to save the abandoned animals from a volcano that is threatening to make them extinct all over again.

A billionaire benefactor’s offer of evacuation offers a ray of hope. Claire convinces Pratt’s Owen to board the mission by offering him the chance to save Blue, the velociraptor he raised and trained.

As things pan out, it’s hard to know which reunion goes worse: Owen and Claire or Owen and Blue.

Suitably, given Pratt’s fondness for action (“Action movies are my love language,” he says), Owen and Claire have a very Keanu and Sandra in Speed kind of relationship.

“Yes!” Howard exclaims. “What’s that quote?”

I’ve heard relationships based on intense experiences never work.

“Yes, that’s our couple model,” Howard grins. “In fact, my haircut in the first movie was based on Sandy’s haircut … I’m calling her Sandy — I don’t know her.

“Part of the fun of these characters,” she adds, “is that when we’re in these emergency situations we’re very compatible, and in not as dangerous situations we come from very different perspectives.”

Pratt thinks this Jurassic twosome is a new kind of movie coupling.

“The action-adventure trope of a guy rescuing a girl is baked into the canon since they started making them,” he says.

“It’s pretty hacky, pretty tired,” Howard agrees.

“Even in the two or three years since the first Jurassic World came out there’s been a lot of changes,” Pratt continues, “and it was important to both of us that this is an adventure that these characters are on together. I seek danger and adventure and I have a beautiful companion who also seeks danger and adventure. This isn’t her screaming and me lifting her up and carrying her through the jungle.”

So while Pratt gets to commando roll through the gnashing jaws of an angry T-Rex in Fallen Kingdom, Howard’s Claire gets some badass moments of her own.

“I love it,” she says. “I’m a super physical person, so it’s always good when there’s an excuse to do some running.”

She also, after much online commentary about Claire’s high heels in the previous movie, gets some “proper shoes this time,” director J.A. Bayona points out.

The Spanish director gave Pratt “all the freedom in the world” to come up with Owen’s quips and moves. “He’s such a brilliant guy, when he improvises he gives you gold,” Bayona says.

So what does it feel like to be the only human ever to have commando rolled through the jaws of a T-Rex, albeit in life-size animatronic form? (Get a taste of Pratt’s great dino escape in the trailer, below.)

“Does it hurt? Does it hurt a lot?” asks Howard.

“That one hurt,” Pratt admits with a laugh.

After Claire and Owen escape the exploding island, Fallen Kingdom becomes a very different movie in its second half as our heroes are stalked around a claustrophobic mansion by that indoraptor.

In a scene that will have children unable to sleep for the next year, the dino with the strangely long claws creeps up on a little girl hiding under her doona.

Will the stars let their own children witness the terrifying thrills on offer?

“This movie is definitely meant to be something the whole family can experience together — it just depends on what age you wanna start,” Howard laughs.

“For myself, my oldest (Theo, 11) is definitely going to be watching the movie and my youngest (Beatrice, six) is gonna be waiting.”

Pratt is still mulling it over.

“I’m probably gonna show Jack (almost six). I showed Jack Jaws when he was four,” he shrugs.

“I wouldn’t have done that,” Howard laughs.
