Talk about an angry bird.

A Channel 10 journalist was ambushed by a relentless bird while trying to film a breaking news story about Australian soccer player Sam Kerr being charged by UK police on Tuesday.

Sydney-based senior reporter Ursula Heger was preparing a story for the 10 News First bulletin about the Matildas captain, and while reading out the facts of the case on-camera, she was swooped not once, but nine times before finally breaking her steely composure.

Heger then broke into fits of laughter, with a cameraman heard saying, “That’s the funniest f***ing thing.”

The TV reporter said it was “one of the most ridiculous moments of my life”.

“I just stood there and took it,” she added.

It’s certainly not the first time a bird has managed to steal the news spotlight.

Back in 2009, a Channel 9 live bulletin, being presented by Melbourne anchor Peter Hitchener, was interrupted by a giant seagull standing in view of the cityscape background.

The veteran broadcaster didn’t flinch despite the hilarious scenes, before later telling a local radio station the bird had been loitering around the camera prior to going on-air.

“About 50 seconds to 6pm this seagull arrived and started pecking at the camera and it had the beadiest huge eyes you’ve ever seen in your life,” Hitchener said at the time.

“I was reading away and it was a serious story, and I suddenly thought “Oh my gosh, that seagull’s back again.”

In 2021, Nine reporter Reid Butler was struck by bird poo on camera.

Butler was being interviewed live about some possible hot spots visited by Victoria’s Covid-19 case at the time, when he briefly stumbled.

Butler’s camera operator dived in when the shot cut back to the studio, cleaning the reporter’s forehead and readjusting his hair.

By the time the presenters switched back to Butler he was as clean as a whistle.

“First and hopefully last time I cop a face full of bird poo midway through a live cross,” he wrote on Twitter.

“Going to buy a lotto ticket. Also, camo Trav is a legend for cleaning me up while the grab was playing.”
