A former star of The Project has lashed out at the show in a fiery rant on social media.
Podcaster Meshel Laurie had some choice words for the show Channel 10 show and one of its stars, Steve Price, following Tuesday night’s edition of the show.
Laurie labelled the show as “nothing” and appeared to suggest that no one bothers tuning in for it anymore.
“Australia’s missed @theprojecttv recently babe,” she told a follower. “It’s really nothing.”
She also had some choice words for Price, whom she took aim at after the radio shock jock’s rant on Tuesday night’s show.
Price hit out at Victorian Premier Jacinta Allan and labelled her “weak” on Tuesday’s show and accused her of not doing enough to stop the neo-Nazi marches that sparked international attention over the weekend.
Laurie tagged Price in a post on Instagram and labelled him a “little man” that needs to stay “in the past where he belongs”.
She wrote: “I was tempted to draw attention to some annoying shit @steveprice7571 said on @theprojecttv but then I remembered it’s the witness protection program of TV shows these days, and should stay that way. I only know about it because of a headline. I shan’t shine a further light on the mediocrity. Be gone little man. Into the past where you belong. Good bye. Go and play your golf.”
She also went on to poke fun at the viewing figures, and appeared to suggest that people stopped watching after she stopped appearing on the panel.
After a fan told her that they “stopped watching” when she wasn’t on it, Laurie responded: “You and about 400 thousand other people!” and added a laughing emoji.
Laurie left The Project in 2019 citing personal reasons and “burn out” as the reason for her departure.
However, she later claimed that a network intolerance towards her political views in her final year and that years of ignoring her calls to diversify the show were also major contributors.
“I tried for years to get The Project to employ Aboriginal comedians, by the way, and I have the emails to prove it. No interest,” she wrote on Instagram last year. “I wrote a thorough pitch document for the executive. No reply. Ever.”
