“This is a dream come true for me,” Dion told Farnham after the song, where the Australian icon arrived unannounced for the second verse, sending the crowd into rapture.
“I have been singing along to your videos on YouTube for more than 20 years,” Dion said. “The charismatic person you are, the energy you give, it is contagious. You are very contagious. It’s been a dream for me to get just a little closer (to you) than YouTube.
“But I never could dream of having this moment happen tonight. I love you so much. You’re more than an inspiration. I want to thank you for your talent, for sharing it with the world. I gotta tell you a dream came true for me tonight.”
Farnham said Dion’s admiration for his voice was incredible.
“Being told that you’re liked as a singer by one of the best singers on the planet …” Farnham said after the performance.
“I read something yesterday that really put you in perspective for me. People actually come to hear you sing. You don’t do somersaults, you don’t come in a camel. I am very flattered. Thank you very much for having me.”
It is Dion’s first Australian tour in 10 years.
The pair rehearsed the duet at soundcheck yesterday, with Farnham spending the pre-show in the room named after him backstage at Rod Laver Arena.
