Prince Harry said he believes his wife suffered a miscarriage because of stress caused by the tabloid press.

Meghan Markle suffered a miscarriage during the height of the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020, before she fell pregnant with the couple’s daughter Lilibet.

The Duchess of Sussex shared her devastating loss with the world in a heartfelt New York Times opinion piece penned in November 2020, recalling the moment she “dropped to the floor” while holding son Archie, realising she was losing her unborn baby.

“I felt a sharp cramp. I dropped to the floor with him in my arms, humming a lullaby to keep us both calm, the cheerful tune a stark contrast to my sense that something was not right,” she wrote.

“I knew, as I clutched my firstborn child, that I was losing my second.”

Speaking in the sixth and final episode of the couple’s Netflix docu-series tonight, Harry said of the tragedy: “I believe my wife suffered a miscarriage because of what the Mail did.

“Now, do we absolutely know that the miscarriage was caused by that, of course we don’t.

“But bearing in mind the stress that caused the lack of sleep, and the timing of the pregnancy, how many weeks in she was, I can say from what I saw, that miscarriage was created by what they were trying to do to her.”

Meghan sued the publisher of the Daily Mail, Associated Newspapers, and won in 2021 after The Mail On Sunday published parts of her “personal and private” letter to her father Thomas Markle.

Elsewhere in the sixth and final episode of the docu-series, the couple discussed their bombshell 2021 Oprah interview.

“Sitting down with Oprah was a reaction to what had happened that year,” Meghan explained of their choice to go ahead with the TV special that sent shockwaves across the globe.

“That interview, it was less about setting the record straight, and at least filling in the blanks that people were filling in for us.”

Harry added that they saw the interview as marking “the beginning of our year of transition”.

“Which turns out, was anything but a transition, it was just a beating,” he added of he and Meghan’s US relocation and the attention it garnered, particularly from their family back in the UK.

“I can’t think what my mum went through all those years ago by herself, to see this institutional gaslighting that happens, it is extraordinary. And that’s why, everything that happened, to us, was always going to happen to us., because if you speak truth to power, that’s how they will respond,” he said.

Footage then rolled of the pair sitting down together to watch the Oprah interview when it aired, as Meghan cradled her baby bump, then heavily pregnant with daughter Lilibet.

As the Oprah special came to an end, Meghan uttered “Oh my god,” before leaning in to give Harry a kiss.

“We didn’t see it until the world saw it,” she revealed.

Viewers then saw the couple react to the fallout from the interview, with Meghan calmly reading the Buckingham Palace statement released about her mental health revelation while on the phone to actor and friend Tyler Perry.

During the phone call, Harry walks over to Meghan to show her a text message from his brother, Prince William, to which she says, “Wow,” abruptly ending her conversation with Perry.

Harry, looking close to tears, then pulls his wife in for a hug and says “I wish I knew what to do.”

Notably, Meghan revealed a member of the royal family had made a remark about Archie’s skin tone before the couple’s first child was born.

The pair have not revealed who the “racist royal” was.
