Prince Harry and Meghan Markle return to US without a peace deal with King Charles III

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are returning to the US after failing to get what they wanted from King Charles III and Prince William.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are returning to the US after failing to strike a peace deal with King Charles III and Prince William.

According to Ms Markle’s close friend CBS Mornings host Gayle King, she claimed the “turmoil” caused by Megxit and the Sussexes’ bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey is still unresolved.

Ms King, who met the couple after being introduced by Ms Winfrey, said: “There have been efforts on both sides … to sort of make this right.

“Big families always go through drama, always go through turmoil. It remains to be seen — are they going to be drawn closer together or are they going to be drawn apart? I have no idea, I have no inside information on that, but I will tell you this: It was good to see Harry standing with his family.”

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were holed up at Frogmore Cottage at Windsor after the Queen Elizabeth II's funeral but were reported to have left for California to care for their children, Archie, 3, and Lilibet, 1.

Some reports suggest they took a flight from Heathrow Airport on Tuesday.

Victoria Arbiter told Seven’s Sunrise they are not planning to return to the UK

“I know there are a lot of people out there who would love to see Harry and Meghan rejoin the Royal Family as working royals,” she said.

“But I think we have to remember that Harry and Meghan’s decision to leave was their decision.

“The Queen had left the door open for them for a year, the goal being at the end of that year for them to say, yeah, you know what we want to come back or no, we’re very very happy living the life we’re living.”

The news comes as Prince Harry has a memoir to publish and Ms Markle cancelled a string of media appearances to help promote their podcast as they continue to film a documentary series for Netflix.

It also comes as Prince William paid tribute to the Queen as he told of the “saddest circumstances” that stopped him attending an eco summit in New York.

He spoke via video for the first time since Monday’s funeral and described his difficult “time of grief”.

Hes said saving the environment was “a cause close to my grandmother’s heart”.

Sources have also told Vanity Fair Prince William and wife Catherine were “relieved” when they left for the US after Megxit.

The Prince and Princess of Wales felt “a sense of relief” because “the drama was gone”.

Even though Prince William extended an olive branch to them during the period of mourning for Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral, sources said he can’t forgive them for splitting the Royal Family.

He and Kate are expected to return to work this week. Princess Anne and the Earl of Wessex are also back at work despite the royal mourning period lasting until next Monday.

New details have also emerged of how the Queen was also said to be left “hurt and exhausted’” after Megxit occurred.

In an upcoming book, The New Royals, a source close to the late Queen claimed she didn’t like to think about Megxit.

An extract of the book, which has been published in Vanity Fair, revealed the Queen was also disappointed when they didn’t return to the UK in August with Archie and Lilibet.

At the time, she hosted an annual “sleepover” in Sandringham with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

The source told the author: “(The Queen) was very hurt and told me, ‘I don’t know, I don’t care, and I don’t want to think about it anymore’.”

The source also said the 96-year-old Monarch did not have the opportunity to see Archie and Lilibet for a long period before she passed away at Balmoral Castle.
