‘Horrible’: Fans slam Kyle Sandilands weight comments

Fans have defended Kyle Sandilands after pictures with his fiance at their lavish gender reveal party attracted “horrible” insults.

Radio personality Kyle Sandilands is known for speaking his mind and in return is used to copping criticism.

But when Sandilands, 50, and his pregnant fiance Tegan Kynaston, 35, found out the gender of their baby on Friday by two planes streaking coloured smoke above a lavish cruise on Sydney Harbour, the hate came in thick and fast.

Comments about Sandilands’ weight and accusations of Kynaston of being a gold digger flooded social media.

Fans came to his defence, slamming the “horrible” comments.

“I can’t believe the comments about his weight. If the roles were reversed and the woman was big there would have been an uproar with these horrible comments,” one woman wrote. “Good luck and congratulations to them.”

Another said: “These comments are horrible. Congratulations to them both, but WOW talk about a fancy gender reveal.”

“Reading these comments … Humans are so cruel. How would people feel reading these if they were written about them?” questioned one Facebook user.

Many defending the jokes made at Sandilands’ expense called out instances where the shock jock had fat shamed others.

“Yet it was OK for him to comment on Australian Idol girls about their weight, making them feel so inferior!” one woman pointed out.

“Hmm Kyle has shamed a woman on national TV for their weight and this would be one of the least controversial things he’s done,” added another.

As an Australian Idol judge in 2006 Sandilands famously told a then-16-year-old Jessica Mauboy, who was a contestant, she needed to “lose the jelly belly” if she wanted to make it in music.

The year before he told Kate DeAraugo, who went on to win the show, that she had “tuckshop lady arms”.

He has also made headlines for calling a journalist a “fat slag”, suggesting actor Magda Szubanski could lose weight if she was put in a concentration camp, and body-shaming his co-host Jackie ‘O’ Henderson.

Days after she announced her separation from her husband in 2018, he rated her five out of ten on air because her “middle area … needs a fair bit of work”.

Sandilands and Kynaston will welcome a baby boy in August.

The couple got engaged during a Queensland holiday in mid-January and announced earlier this month during The Kyle and Jackie O Show they were expecting a baby.

Kynaston had previously been Sandilands’ personal assistant before the couple started dating in 2019.
