Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs has reportedly been placed on suicide watch after being denied bail following his arrest for sex trafficking and racketeering on Monday.

Sources told People on Thursday that the decision was made for “preventive measures as Combs is in shock and his mental state is unclear”.

Suicide watch is defined as “supervisory precautions taken for suicidal inmates that require frequent observation,” according to the US Department of Justice National Institute of Corrections.

Combs’ rep and lawyer, as well as the City of New York Department of Corrections, did not immediately respond to Page Six’s requests for comment.

The embattled music mogul, 54, is currently being held at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, NY.

The detention facility, which opened in 1994 and holds more than 1200 people, has a reputation for violence, filthy conditions, food contamination and suicides, the New York Times reported.

In July, an inmate died from injuries sustained during a fight inside the Metropolitan Detention Center, which his lawyer described as “an overcrowded, understaffed and neglected federal jail that is hell on Earth”.

The Bad Boy Records founder was charged with sex trafficking, racketeering and transportation to engage in prostitution in Lower Manhattan’s federal court on Tuesday.

In a 14-page indictment, prosecutors accused Combs of “creating a criminal enterprise whose members and associates engaged in … sex trafficking, forced labour, kidnapping, arson, bribery and obstruction of justice”.

The indictment also revealed federal officers discovered drugs, more than 1000 bottles of lubricant and three AR-15s during the March raids of his Miami and Los Angeles mansions.

Combs pleaded not guilty to all three counts.

“Mr Combs is a fighter … he’s not afraid of the charges,” the rapper’s lawyer, Marc Agnifilo, told reporters following Tuesday’s arraignment.

“He’s been looking forward to this day; he’s been looking forward to clearing his name. He didn’t do these things.”

The hip hop mogul has faced a growing list of legal troubles over the past year after his ex-girlfriend Casandra “Cassie” Ventura sued him for rape and abuse in November 2023.

Though they settled out of court in less than 24 hours, Combs was subsequently hit with additional sexual assault lawsuits from other alleged victims.

He has maintained his innocence.
