The Princess of Wales will not return to royal duties until she is well enough, Kensington Palace has confirmed.
It has been agreed that she will miss this year’s highly-anticipated traditional royal Easter Service at St George’s Chapelon the Windsor Estate next Sunday as she continues cancer treatment.
It is understood Kate and Prince William pulled their children out of school before publicly announcing her cancer diagnosis to shield them from coverage of the news.
The princess decided to announce the news of her shock cancer diagnosis amid mounting speculation she would make her first postoperative public appearance walking to St George’s Cathedral in Windsor for Easter mass next Sunday.
She was last seen in an official capacity in December last year when she attended the Christmas Morning Service at Sandringham.
Kate, 42, has stepped away from official duties following abdominal surgery at the London Clinic on January 17.
In her deeply personal and emotional broadcast she said she initially showed no signs of cancer but follow up tests showed the disease had been “present”.
It is customary for the royal family to attend an Easter Service as they did at Windsor last year.
William and their children George, Charlotte and Louis are not expected to attend St George’s Chapel without their mother for the Easter Day Mattins.
The Princess’s diagnosis is the second to have struck the royal family. King Charles revealed he was undergoing treatment after surgeons discovered a form of cancer during surgery for an enlarged prostate.
