Reality TV star and lawyer-in-the-making Kim Kardashian has asked California Governor Gavin Newsom to increase the pay of incarcerated firefighters who are battling the LA wildfires.
“On all 5 fires in Los Angeles, there are hundreds of incarcerated firefighters, risking their lives to save us,” the 44-year-old wrote in a series of Instagram Stories.
“They are on the Palisades fire and Eaton fire in Pasadena working 24 hour shifts. They get paid almost nothing, risk their lives, some have died, to prove to the community that they have changed and are now first responders. I see them as heroes.”
“The incarcerated firefighters have been paid $1/hour to risk their lives and that pay has been the same since 1984. It has never been raised with inflation. It’s never been raised when fires got worse and many died,” she continued.
“I am urging [Newsom] to do what no Governor has done in 4 decades, and raise the incarcerated firefighter pay to a rate that honors a human being risking their life to save our lives and homes.”
The mum-of-four’s plea comes as she was slammed online for using more than her allocated water usage in 2022, even though she has since installed water saving measures.
Other celebrities like Kevin Hart and Sylvester Stallone were also fined by city authorities for going over their water capacity.
Ms Karashian was also criticised for promoting her clothing label Skims during the wildfires.
EVA LONGORIA’S GIVES EMOTIONAL UPDATE
Desperate Housewives star Eva Longoria has posted an emotional video to her Instagram account about the LA wildfires and the impact it has had on friends and family.
“My heart breaks for the City of LA and the devastating fires that have affected so many lives,” she captioned the video. “I’m personally matching $50k to @thisisabouthumanity’s efforts to support frontline essential workers, farm workers, day laborers and families impacted by these wildfires. I hope we can come together and support these resilient members of our community.”
In the video, Ms Longoria tearfully said it’s been a “crazy week, devastating for so many people. So many friends who’ve lost a lot. Homes. I know it’s not things, it’s memories, things that people have worked really hard for.”
She said her family had decided to evacuate their house. “I know a lot of people weren’t so lucky. We’ve donated clothes, we literally emptied out my pantry to take down to all of the places that are accepting donations.”
“LA is strong, everybody has been so helpful in the communities all over from Altadena to Pasadena to the Pacific Palisades,” she continued. “Everybody is on the street. Everybody is helping. People are coming together in beautiful ways.‘It’s beautiful to watch.”
SPENCER PRATTS CLAPS BACK AT MANDY MOORE CRITICS
The Hills star, who is having somewhat of a revolution on TikTok, defended actress Mandy Moore after she posted a GoFundMe campaign on Instagram to help her in-laws whose home was burned down in the LA wildfires.
Moore received intense backlash for posting about the campaign, given her assumed wealth.
Pratt, who lost his own home in the fires that he shared with wife and fellow The Hills alum Heidi Montag, said in a TikTok video that Moore was “such a nice friend.”
“If I see one more TikTok about Mandy Moore and GoFundMes, I’m going to start coming after you guys,” he said.
“You want beef with your worst nightmare, which is me right now? You post about Mandy Moore. I will ride for Mandy Moore.
“Mandy Moore doesn’t do anything wrong, she’s the nicest freakin’ lady ever. She’s been nice since 2004. If you’re nice in 2004, you’re still nice in 2025. I’m talking so nice. So don’t you dare come for Mandy Moore.”
KHOLE KARDASHIAN SLAMS LA MAYOR
Khloe Kardashian has slammed LA Mayor Karen Bass as a “joke” as wildfires continue to devastate Los Angeles.
The reality star showed she supported embattled Fire Department Chief Kristin Crowley, sharing a video showing the chief telling Fox 11 Los Angeles that the city had failed them after recent budget cuts to the department’s budget.
Kardashian posted on Instagram: “I stand by YOU Chief Crowley!!!! You spoke the truth and you had tears in your eyes because I can tell you didn’t even want to say that but it was THE TRUTH,” Khloe wrote on Instagram last night (January 10). “Thank you for being honest. Mayor Bass, you are a joke!!!!”
JAMIE LEE CURTIS COMPARES BURNED LA TO GAZA
Oscar winner Jamie Lee Curtis, who has lived in the Pacific Palisades for decades, faced a huge backlash for comparing the fire-ravaged area to the war-torn Middle East.
“The entire Pacific Palisades looks like, you know, unfortunately, Gaza or one of these war-torn countries where awful things have happened,” the actor said during a question-and-answer session for her new film, The Last Showgirl, posted to X.
Fans quickly flocked to the comments section to question the comparison, with one saying, “Comparing wildfires to war zones feels off, it minimises the devastation unique to each.”
Another wrote: “I respect Jamie Lee Curtis, but that comparison doesn’t make any sense.”
VIEWERS SLAM DENNIS QUAID REPORTER
An American TV reporter was slammed by viewers after interrupting veteran Hollywood actor Dennis Quaid while he was trying to pack his car and evacuate his Brentwood mansion during the fires.
Quaid was frantically collecting his family’s belongings following the latest evacuation orders, when he was approached by NBC Los Angeles’ Robert Kovacik for an interview.
Despite the odd timing Quaid remained polite, even issuing a reminder to other residents to turn off their gas before evacuating.
At another point, Quaid pointed out sombrely: “Our experience of reality can change in a moment.”
“We’ve had it lucky,” he went on. “I have so many friends who have lost (their houses) … We’re fighting as hard as we can to save our city.”
“Not them interviewing Dennis Quaid while he frantically tries to pack his belongings to evacuate,” one fan wrote on X.
Another commented on Quaid’s calm demeanour despite the pressure he would have been feeling.
“This interview was an odd mix of bizarre, comical, touching, and somewhat uncomfortable … but what I learned from it is that Dennis Quaid seems like a very nice fella,” the fan wrote.
