Caleb Poulter’s heartbreak after kitten’s shock death

Western Bulldogs draftee Caleb Poulter has been left heartbroken after the shock death of his kitten Douglas.

The British shorthair cat tragically died in Melbourne on Tuesday.

Poulter and his girlfriend Sam Guggenheimer purchased the grey feline just two months ago.

In a touching tribute on social media, Guggenheimer said Douglas “saved” her.

“Heaven gained a little angel today,” she said.

“Words cannot describe how much this little tiny kitten changed our life for such a short period of time.

“He filled a space in our heart we didn’t know was missing. He will be our little boy forever.

“Thank you Douglas for being there these past two months with me, I didn’t know how much I needed you, you really saved me and showed me how to love and care for something as precious as you.

“Hope you have endless salmon treats up there buddy, we love you and miss you already.”

Guggenheimer, who reguarly posted videos of Douglas to her 182,000 TikTok followers, didn’t comment on his cause of death.

It comes as AFL star Tom Mitchell lost his dog Macy in March.

The four-year-old golden retriever died after a “freak accident” at a Melbourne park.

Mitchell revealed on social media that he held Macy in his arms, moments before she passed away.
