Brynne Edelsten says it wasn’t her choice not to consummate her marriage to late controversial businessman Geoffrey Edelsten.
Speaking for the first time since his death on June 11, Brynne confirmed they never had sex during their five-year relationship.
The pair wed in a lavish $3m wedding at Crown Casino in November, 2009, when he was aged 67 and she was 26.
“It wasn’t my decision,” she told New Idea. “It was something we never really talked about.
“In the beginning, I assumed we were waiting for marriage, but then it didn’t happen. I thought maybe it was all the medication he was on … then after so long you kind of forget about it.
“It was confusing to me, because in a marriage that’s what you do. To this day, I don’t really understand it.”
Brynne also defends keeping his name despite their divorce. Edelsten’s third wife Gabi Grecko blasted Brynne on Sunday night for using the name to gain attention and fame.
Grecko, the former stripper turned rapper, maintains she is his widow even though their marriage failed after five months in 2015.
“I don’t associate my name as an attachment to him — it’s just my name,” Brynne said.
“I don’t see any reason why I would change it — that’s my identity with or without him.”
Brynne also expressed her shock that Edelsten reportedly died alone, aged 78, in his Melbourne apartment.
“I just hope he had someone by his side or went in his sleep,” she said.
She added: “When (Geoff and Gabi) broke up, we had lunch. He was telling me about how things ended and he was quite upset about it.
“Gabi and I have never spoken — she was not a fan of me from day one. I never really understood why.”
As for Edelsten’s estate, Brynne said she wasn’t sure if she’d be left anything in his will after he was declared bankrupt.
“I doubt I will be left anything, but that’s the thing with Geoff – nothing would surprise me!”, she said.
Grecko, who is based in New York, also slammed Brynne for “bad mouthing” Edelsten.
“Hey Brynne. Stop bad mouthing my husband he has just passed away … shut the f--- up if you don’t have anything nice to say about him,’’ Gabi said.
“Get my husbands name out of your mouth. Loser. He made you famous and you still use his name even though he’s my husband so you should just stay still, you move wrong. And change your damn name!
“I can’t even use my own husband’s name out of remembrance, respect or honor (sic).
“This is Mrs Edelsten, not you sweetheart and he expressed to me many times to change mine and I couldn’t because of you. Clown.”
Grecko changed her name from GLittA FoxX to WiDoW FoxX after making the claim they are still married.
She has mourned his loss through a series of images of the pair posted on Instagram and also bizarrely claimed that someone told her Edelsten would leave her something in his will. She claimed that he was “blackmailed” not to talk to her in the period leading up to his death.
On Sunday she insisted she’s not a gold-digger and she’s not after his money.
“We tried to get back together a year and a half ago, almost two years ago … but I just needed mental time to myself,’’ Grecko said on Instagram.
“I didn’t think that my husband was going to pass away.
“We were married still, that’s it.
“Also about money and stuff I don’t think there is any money and I don’t care if there is because I’m doing really great on my own. I don’t need money, I make enough money … I’m sick of people making this about age and gold digging and money.
“There’s not like millions of dollars sitting around that I’m trying to get. I don’t need anything, like I’m fine. God has blessed me.”
Grecko also said Edelsten made her feel like the most important girl in Australia and was the only person who didn’t abandon her. She said he’d saved her life after a battle with depression following their stint on Celebrity Apprentice in 2015.
