Bruce Willis’ daughter Tallulah shares autism diagnosis: ‘It changed my life’

The daughter of Bruce Willis has opened up for the first time about a new diagnosis, just a month after revealing her secret battle.

Bruce Willis and Demi Moore’s youngest daughter has revealed that she has been diagnosed with autism, saying the news is “changing her life”.

In a video shared to Instagram, Tallulah Willis posted a throwback photo of herself as a child stroking her father’s head while walking the red carpet with him.

She captioned the post, “tell me your [sic] autistic without telling me your [sic] autistic.”

After one of her 402,000 followers wrote: “Not sure how much of your journey you’ve shared but would love to read more. You’re brave and inspiring and this is a very sweet video,” Willis candidly replied that it was the “first time” she had ever publicly shared her diagnosis.

“Found out this summer and it’s changed my life [sun emoji].”

Autism spectrum disorder is “a broad range of conditions characterised by challenges with social skills, repetitive behaviours, speech and non-verbal communication”.

Last month, Tallulah opened up about her experience with anorexia, explaining to her followers that recovery is not linear.

She admitted she experienced difficulty in accepting changes to her recovering body.

The 30-year-old’s diagnosis also comes nearly two years after the family released a statement about her father Bruce Willis, who celebrated his 69th birthday on March 19.

The Die Hard star’s family revealed that he had to step away from Hollywood after being diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia.

“I’m having an intens [sic] moment of romanticising unhealthy times and how it felt to move through the day in that size body,” she wrote on Instagram last month. “Just wanted to voice it because I know (hope) I’m not alone.”

In May of 2023, Tallulah opened up about her eating disorder to Vogue, saying she has been struggling with her body image since a fateful night when she was 11.

She had accompanied her mother Moore to an event, where she wore a mink capelet and felt positive about herself.

However, upon looking at celebrity pages online afterwards, she found heartbreaking comments about her appearance.

“I sat reading for two hours, believing that I had stumbled onto a truth about myself that no one had told me because they were trying to protect me,” she told the magazine.

Tallulah also discussed her struggle with body dysmorphia, depression as well as being diagnosed with ADHD and borderline personality disorder.

She eventually sought treatment at Driftwood Recovery in Texas in June 2022, where she stayed for four months at the the request of her parents, despite her dad grappling with his dementia diagnosis.

“I realised that what I wanted more than harmony with my body was harmony with my family — to no longer worry them, to bring a levity to my sisters and my parents,” Willis said at the time.
