Australian musician Jaguar Jonze has tested positive for COVID-19 19.
The Brisbane-based singer (real name Deena Lynch) revealed her diagnosis on Facebook, saying she’d been feeling lethargic with a fever for several days but had struggled to get tested.
She finally tested positive yesterday, telling fans she believes she caught the virus while touring in America two weeks ago.
The tour was abruptly cancelled due to the coronavirus shutdown when Jonze was in New York and she flew home.
“Tracking it back, they think I would’ve caught it on my journey back home from the US,” Jonze wrote.
“The ironic thing is, I booked an early flight back from the US to be safe and at home in Australia. I wore a mask my entire flight and hand sanitised/washed my hands at every given moment.
“This shows how easy it is to spread and shows the importance of self-isolation right now. It was extremely difficult for me to get a test despite having symptoms and coming from overseas because resources are low, which cements again the importance of social distancing.
“I could’ve easily been an unconfirmed case and I’m sure there are still many unconfirmed cases right now. We need to squash this virus and we need to do it in drastic ways to protect our society and the effect it’s going to have on the economy. I’m going back to potato life to recover but I’ll be in touch again while in quarantine. Please be social distancing, I promise once I feel better I will think of ways for us to feel connected in a disconnecting time.”
Jonze was one of the artists who competed in Australia Decides this year, to pick the Eurovision contestant to represent Australia, eventually won by Montaigne – Eurovision has since been cancelled this year.
Last week a member of Melbourne band Ocean Grove tested positive to COVID-19 19, days after interacting with around 150 fans at three meet and greet appearances in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.
They broke the news on Facebook, asking fans who had been at the events to get tested and go into self-isolation. The band, who have yet to reveal which member tested positive or update fans on the band’s health, debuted at No. 8 in the ARIA chart this week with their new album Flip Phone Fantasy.
They were signing copies of the album, including on vinyl, at the meet and greets to maximise sales ahead of its chart debut.
