When James Brayshaw was thrown into breakfast radio with Brigitte Duclos their relationship was at first frosty. Here’s why.

Brigitte Duclos says she thought James Brayshaw was a “snob” when they first met, before they went on to become close mates.

Duclos and Brayshaw worked together on Triple M’s The Cage breakfast show for six years until 2007. The team was Peter Berner, Duclos, Brayshaw, Matt Parkinson and Mike Fitzpatrick.

“James came from Adelaide and when he arrived on the football team I said, ‘hello, I’m Brigitte’ and I thought he was such a snob,’’ Duclos told the Sacked: Showbiz podcast.

“I was quite friendly and he gave me nothing. We just didn’t like each other and took an instant dislike to each other.

“Then they threw us in together on The Cage and we became best friends.

“It was very funny, we always laugh about that day we met.

“James has got a fantastic sense of humour. It was quite a tricky show at times and we looked after each other. He’s a dear friend.”

During that time Brayshaw gave Duclos the nickname ‘top flight’.

She revealed the story behind it.

“One day I came in and told him how my husband at the time was going on a trip with a mate of his who was a photographer with five models into the middle of the desert,’’ Duclos said.

“And James said to me, ‘you’re letting him go into the desert with five models?’

“And I said yes why wouldn’t I? And he said you are a top flight Mrs.

“So that’s where it came from, just complete admiration.”

Duclos said breakfast radio hours were the toughest but the most sought after.

“I loved that job and I think how lucky am I to have had a job I love,’’ she said.

“When you’re young it’s a pain in the arse but when you’re older you don’t mind. You feel jet-lagged all the time. Breakfast hours are the hardest but it’s also the best. That’s the one you want.”
