James Brayshaw rules himself out of Grand Final Footy Show reunion

He was a key cog in The Footy Show machine for 11 years, but James Brayshaw has effectively ruled out being involved in the Grand Final return, which has been pegged as a reunion of stars.

The Footy Show Grand Final special may be less of a reunion and more of a tribute to the glory days of the show with a least one former host unlikely to be part of the September spectacular.

Eddie McGuire, Sam Newman and Trevor Marmalade are locked in to headline the celebration of Channel 9’s iconic football show, with Billy Brownless to be part of the on-air team, but it remains unclear who, and how many, of the hosting alumni will be joining them at Rod Laver Arena on September 26.

“I doubt it … because I am contracted to work for another network, but I am pleased to hear that it is coming back and hopefully it will get a terrific send off because it deserves it, it was amazing,” Brayshaw said on Triple M last week.

Brayshaw is an increasingly valuable and valued member for Channel 7’s cricket and footy broadcast teams.

The Footy Show’s groundbreaking first female host, Rebecca Maddern, said she was unclear what her involvement would be in the special.

“I am not sure, but I know this is going to a fabulous tribute to a show that deserves to be celebrated,” the Ninja Warrior Australia host said.

“The fact that I was one of the hosts (means) I will be part of it but the details are far from finalised. I have not been privy to any details yet.”

Other hosts over the show’s 25 and a half year history include Anthony ‘Lehmo’ Lehmann, Garry Lyon and Footy Classified host Craig Hutchison, along with a vast support cast of the game’s biggest characters and playing greats.
