Billy Brownless has opened up on his relationship with James Brayshaw and why the pair are successful radio co-hosts.

Brownless and Brayshaw have worked together for more than 15 years on Triple M and The Rush Hour which has now extended further to Adelaide, Perth and regional stations across South Australia and Western Australia from 4-6pm.

“Well it just clicked, sometimes it just clicks,’’ Brownless told Dane Swan and Ralph Horowitz on the Hump Day with Swanny & Friends podcast.

“And look, we’re not best mates. We’re close and mates and all that. But I don’t see him. Actually, I didn’t see him all summer.”

Brownless said the pair, whose show is billed as sport meets stupid, had good chemistry and Brayshaw was an incredible host.

“When we did our last show, we came back for our for our first show because we wanted to have a meeting the week before to just talk about it and Jim was busy,’’ he said.

“So when we came in on the first day, that was the first time we’d seen each other over summer.”

Brownless said Brayshaw was a natural host who “just gets it”.

“He’s been around for a long time — what he is, is a good host,” Brownless said.

“And there’s only a few around. Eddie (McGuire) was a very good host. Gazza (Garry Lyon) is a good host. Jim’s a good host. And it’s a bloody hard job.

“So Jim’s very good at what he does. He pumps it up... he’s very good at building everyone up. And then he lets you talk and say what you have to. He’s been around for a long time. So he knows how it works, he’s good to work with.”
