You’re the Voice crowned the best Song Of the Year in ARIA Awards history by our readers
JUST when it looked like Kylie had won the vote for the best Aussie song of the past 30 years, News Corp music fans rallied behind a much-loved anthem.

IT was the song that made John Farnham one of the most loved entertainers in Australian history and now You’re the Voice has been voted the best ARIA Song Of the Year to celebrate the awards’ 30th anniversary.
The inspiring anthem beat out Kylie Minogue’s Can’t Get You Out Of My Head in the final days of voting in the News Corp Australia poll to decide your favourite Song Of the Year from the past three decades.
At the first ARIA Awards in 1987, host Elton John announced the winner of the Song Of the Year as “him with his single”.
He was referring to Farnham, who had already made a few acceptance speeches for his supreme comeback record Whispering Jack.
“If nothing else happens for me … good,” Farnham joked on stage.
“I am the happiest man in the world and I will fight anyone who says they are happier than me.”
Other songs that proved popular with News Corp Australia music fans included The Church’s Under the Milky Way, Midnight Oil’s Beds Are Burning and Gotye and Kimbra’s Somebody That I Used To Know.
Farnham is expected to close ARIA’s 30th anniversary celebrations in Sydney tomorrow night with a performance of You’re the Voice but the shy guy won’t be walking the red carpet.
NOMINATIONS FOR 2016 ARIA AWARDS
Award organisers have locked in some last minute surprise guests to present the dangerously pointed trophies at The Star including Kiwi comedy duo Flight Of the Conchords, international tourists James Arthur and Charli XCX, Best Comedy Album winners Roy & HG and previous winners John Butler, Kasey Chambers, Katie Noonan, Tim Rogers, Ben Lee and Washington.
The red carpet action kicks off at 2pm with many of this year’s chart-toppers including Flume, Jessica Mauboy, Illy, Guy Sebastian and Troye Sivan expected to draw huge cheers from fans.
The performers for the awards also include The Veronicas, who are hosting the event, Bernard Fanning, Missy Higgins, Jimmy Barnes, Violent Soho and Hall of Fame inductees Crowded House.
Flume is a heavy favourite with Luxbet to win Song of the Year, Album of the Year and Best Male Artist. Sia is a warm $1.60 favourite to win best female artist, having previously claimed the award in 2014, with Jessica Mauboy $4.25 and Montaigne $5.00.
The biggest favourite of the night with Luxbet is Sydney trio Rufus ($1.22) to take out the title of Best Group.
