What does one do when one gets the most exciting phone call of their life?

One gets drunk, of course.

Australian actress Milly Alcock has revealed the moment she was told she landed the lead role of the younger version of Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen on House of the Dragon, which premieres on Binge and Foxtel at 11am today.

The 23-year-old, who was washing dishes at a restaurant in Sydney at the time, said she was at a friend’s house making dinner when her agent called with the massive news.

“It was like 8pm and I was like, ‘Oh sh*t. It’s really late for my agent.’ And he was like, ‘Are you sitting down?’,” Alcock said.

“I haven’t had many of these phone calls. This is my first, ‘Are you sitting down?’ “He was like, ‘You got it.’ And I just froze outside and then walked back in and was like, ‘Do you have any wine? Can we drink it now?’ So we got drunk.”

While she was legally blocked from telling anyone about the life-changing news, Alcock spilt that she did tell her mum.

“I mean you can’t tell anyone. Lawsuits, man. Like big lawsuits,” Alcock said.

“(But) I called my mum because … It’s your mum. I feel like NDAs … it’s like, if it’s your mum, you can tell them. So that’s what I did.”

The 10-part HBO fantasy series, which reportedly cost around $300 million to make, is set around 200 years before the events of GoT, and is based on chapters from author George R.R. Martin’s companion book, Fire & Blood.

It focuses on the rise and fall of House Targaryen – Daenerys Targaryen’s family – during a civil war dubbed the ‘Dance of the Dragons’.

This particular era is when the Targaryen dynasty reigns supreme, with King Viserys Targaryen (Paddy Considine) serving as the peaceful ruler of the Seven Kingdoms.

But chaos ensues with a long list of potential heirs including Viserys’ daughter Rhaenyra Targaryen (Emma D’Arcy), and Viserys’ brother Prince Daemon Targaryen (Matt Smith).

Alicent Hightower (Olivia Cooke) is also in the mix, after becoming Viserys’ second wife. Judging by the trailer, she wants to block Rhaenyra – her childhood best friend – from becoming Queen so she can birth an heir.
