Winter is coming … Again. The hotly-anticipated prequel to Game of Thrones is finally set to premiere. Here’s how you can tune in in Australia.
One of – if not the most – exciting TV shows is landing on our screens.
House of the Dragon – the globally-anticipated prequel series to Game of Thrones – hits streaming express from the US on Binge and Foxtel in Australia at 11am today, Monday, August 22.
The 10-part HBO fantasy series, which reportedly cost around $300 million to make, is set around 200 years before the events of GoT, and is based on chapters from author George R.R. Martin’s companion book, Fire & Blood.
How to watch House of the Dragon:
Only Binge and Foxtel subscribers will be able to stream the series.
There is a 14-day free trial on offer on Binge for new customers, while Foxtel Now is offering a 10-day free trial offer.
The debut episode of HotD will drop at 11am AEDT Monday, August 22, with the following nine episodes to premiere weekly at the same time.
What is House of the Dragon about?
HotD focuses on the rise and fall of House Targaryen - Daenerys Targaryen’s family - during a civil war dubbed the ‘Dance of the Dragons’.
This particular era is when the Targaryen dynasty reigns supreme, with King Viserys Targaryen (Paddy Considine) serving as the peaceful ruler of the Seven Kingdoms.
But chaos ensues with a long list of potential heirs including Viserys’ daughter Rhaenyra Targaryen (Emma D’Arcy), and Viserys’ brother Prince Daemon Targaryen (Matt Smith).
Alicent Hightower (Olivia Cooke) is also in the mix, after becoming Viserys’ second wife. Judging by the trailer, she wants to block Rhaenyra - her childhood best friend - from becoming Queen so she can birth an heir.
And to heat things up even more, all the Targaryens have their own fully grown dragons. Fans of the original series will know how rare dragons were in Thrones, with Daenerys the only character to have her own trio of fire-breathers.
House of the Dragon will premiere on Monday 22 August at the same time as the US, streaming on Binge. The series will also be available to watch on Foxtel in 4K Ultra HD.
