They are the cream of the crop — the four super-talented singing, dancing young actors who lead the iconic Billy Elliot musical. And they’re ready to take Melbourne by storm.

The four boys sharing the role of Billy Elliot in the groundbreaking musical have the chance of a lifetime to show Melbourne the great range of their talents.
River Mardesic, 11, of Melbourne, Omar Abiad, 12, of Brisbane, Wade Neilsen, 13, of Newcastle, and Jamie Rogers, 13, of Canberra, will all be at the show’s opening night in the Regent Theatre tonight.
Only one boy will be on stage but the boys have such a close friendship that they will all share in the opening night glory together.
“I’m feeling really excited that we’re finally opening in Melbourne, which is our last season and it will be the most amazing experience,” Omar said.
Billy Elliot, based on the film of the same name, is a gritty but heartwarming musical following the journey of a young boy raised in a small English mining town.
In the tumultuous era of the miners’ strikes, Billy is supposed to be taking boxing classes but discovers an interest and great talent for dancing.

Producer Louise Withers described it as a show that is essentially about acceptance.
“It’s also about making dreams come true and fighting for what you believe in,” Withers said.
Billy Elliot the Musical is at the Regent Theatre until April 19.
