Hollywood powerbroker and former Happy Days star Ron Howard is bringing his film and television development laboratory to Melbourne.
Imagine Impact, created by movie director Howard, and producer Brian Grazer and Tyler Mitchell, will set up base here to find stories and ideas to develop into films.
A Beautiful Mind and Cinderella Man starred Oscar-winning actor Russell Crowe.
Imagine Impact is asking Australians to pitch their best idea for a film or television series.
If selected, they’ll come to Melbourne for eight weeks and develop the project with help from movie industry heavy-hitters.
After that, they’ll get to pitch directly to major studios.
“The power of Imagine Impact is global and we’ve set our sights on bringing our innovative approach to discovering, cultivating and empowering creators to Australia,” Mitchell said in a written statement.
“(Australia) is recognised for its robust film and television industry made up of a community who passionately support its creators. It was a natural move for expansion.”
Victorian Minister for Creative Industries, Martin Foley said: “Attracting Imagine Impact to Melbourne is a coup that reinforces Victoria’s position as a screen leader and a creative hub. This program will give our local writers the opportunity to foster international networks and create dynamic screen stories that will go on to be seen by people across the globe.”
Applications open on March 3.
