Anthony Hudson has opened up about his shock radio defection, saying it felt like the right time to return to where his career started.
Hudson left SEN in October after almost two decades at the sports station and has now joined 3AW to call all Friday night matches for the upcoming footy season.
“I’ve had a fantastic opportunity at SEN and thoroughly enjoyed my time there,’’ Hudson said.
“I was flattered that they (3AW) wanted me to come back and I felt like it was a good time to go back.
“I’m excited to be there and to be working with all the people, most of whom I’ve worked with at some stage before so I know their talents.
“I know it sounds cliche, but it’s a new challenge and I’m looking forward to being part of the team.”
Hudson, widely regarded as one of the best callers in the game, was Rex Hunt’s sidekick at 3AW back in 1995.
He is now part of a major shake-up of the station’s football coverage and is likely to call beside Bruce Eva with special comments from Matthew Lloyd and Leigh Matthews.
Former Channel 7 presenter Jacqui Felgate is taking over the 3AW pre-game shows on Friday night and Saturday while Sam McClure will host Sundays.
Hudson is still calling on Fox Footy across Saturday and Sunday, and lately has been part of Fox Cricket’s Big Bash cricket coverage.
He isn’t keen though to replace Nick Riewoldt, who is leaving Fox Footy to live in the US, on the Saturday night entertainment show Best on Ground.
“They don’t think I’m funny enough to replace Nick,’’ he said.
Hudson will also front a weekly, long-form podcast where he will chat with some of the biggest names of the game.
