Anthony Hudson’s spilt drink sends footy commentators off-air

Anthony Hudson forced Fox Footy’s commentary off-air for four minutes during the Geelong and Richmond clash after a bizarre slip-up.

A spilt bottle of coke by commentator Anthony Hudson sparked footy chaos last weekend.

Fox Footy’s crew of Hudson, Nick Riewoldt and Garry Lyon were off air for four minutes as technicians worked overtime to fix the electrical issues during the Geelong-Richmond clash.

“I’m pretty sure most of my colleagues would agree that if anyone was going to put us off-air in that way it would be me,’’ Hudson said.

“But I’d still like to see the down the ground vision because I’m convinced Garry Lyon elbowed me which caused the bottle to spill.

“I’ve tried to explain that there really wasn’t much Coke left in the bottle but no one seems to believe me.

“I’m now restricted to a water bottle with a lid.”

Riewoldt said it was one of the most awkward moments of his media career so far.

“I’ve only been in the commentary box for a handful of years but it was as serious, funny, awkward a moment as I’ve ever had,’’ he said.

“Huddo’s face when he knocked the bottle was priceless. As soon as I could hear a crackle in my headphone I thought the coke has got into these fibres. Then everything went blank.

“We all looked at each other and we were just helpless. The technicians, it was their grand final, and they did a great job.

“Then only one microphone was working so we had to play musical headphones.

“It’s been that sort of year.”

The jovial activities continued this week for Hudson and Riewoldt ahead of Fox Footy’s Retro Round celebrating the 90s.

Hudson was filmed as Daryl Braithwaite singing The Horses while Riewoldt joined with Jonathan Brown to re-create Wayne’s World.
