Reality TV star and Amazing Race Australia winner Toni Hilland has revealed her new cancer battle.
Melbourne-based Hilland and her husband Heath Curry won the Channel 10 reality show in 2022.
Hilland was diagnosed with breast cancer eight years ago and in 2021 it was discovered she had terminal secondary breast cancer.
Determined to get the most out of their time together the couple signed up for The Amazing Race and emerged from the reality travel race victorious.
Sadly, in November last year Hilland collapsed while celebrating the reality TV win and medical scans showed she had developed tumours in her brain.
Chemotherapy and treatment with a new immunotherapy drug followed and signs were positive that the tumours were responding to treatment.
However, Hilland took to social media this week to reveal bad news.
“In late Oct, scans showed that the tumours in my brain were growing, therefore treatment was no longer working,” she posted on an account she and Curry share.
“Today I have started on a clinical trial (TUGETHER) @petermaccancercentre. Heath (as always) is by my side.”
Hilland’s determination to make the most of every moment has been inspirational.
Earlier this year they welcomed their first child via a surrogate.
“People with or without cancer, live like they have got forever and worry about retirement and all sorts of things and I am like: ‘live every day, it is potentially your last, you don’t know what is around the corner,’ so that is what we are doing. There is still a lot of life in me,” she said last year.
